PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT
At Calico Junction New Beginnings Ranch, Inc. we believe that the combination of engaging in a therapeutic environment, attending an individually paced equine-assisted learning program designed for success, participating in individual and group therapy, and being involved in a life-changing equine program allows struggling individuals to experience success and rediscover a sense of mastery and self worth.
In all decisions and actions—including our interactions with participants, family members, co-workers and professional colleagues—we are guided by our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Relationships, and Integrity.

We are dedicated to ensuring that Calico Junction New Beginnings Ranch, Inc. remains an environment where adolescents and young adults can develop practice and improve healthy interdependence, social accountability. They do this by learning responsibility and self-mastery through principle based decision making, value congruent behavior, and honest achievement in a traditional ranch setting.
The primary reason we use horses is that a horse will react or respond to a person’s behavior in much the same way that another person will. This is the dynamic that sets the use of horses apart from other animals. A horse will not give love and acceptance until the client learns to build a relationship that fosters love and acceptance, the same way they must do in human relationships. A horse responds honestly to what the client is doing in the present, rather than what the client did in the past or what they may do in the future. Once clients understand the things in a relationship for which they are responsible, he/she can make changes in themselves to improve the relationship with the horse and then apply those same changes to more complex human interactions.

The ultimate goal with all children is to teach them to do the right thing since once he/she believes it is the right thing to do instead of doing it out of fear, intimidation or appeasement. This enlightened horse sense will transform the way parents and educators teach children how to be self-sufficient adults.
We fully believe that restoring function to the family unit is a top priority, and we place significant value on our efforts to help parents play an active and positive role in their children’s healthy development. |
Calico Junction New Beginnings Ranch, Inc. is dedicated to providing quality learning experiences for participants that are not successful in the traditional classroom setting. Our very experienced and dedicated teaching staff, coupled with our specially trained horses, create a unique and highly effective learning environment. Utilizing equine assisted learning, the unique needs of each participant are met through the design of specific activities involving one or more horses which are designed to foster growth and realistic stepping stones to a positive learning experience. Participants discover through metaphoric learning and their reactions to the horse and the horses reaction to them, effective solutions to the challenges they face in each lesson and in life. The curriculum utilized in our program utilizes the farm environment and the horse theme to achieve goals. The life skills and character education classes have been specifically designed to engage even the most difficult of participants in the academic process. Making the curriculum engaging for all participants encourages academic achievement by instilling a desire to learn and the idea that learning is rewarding.
